Experimental analysis of a propeller noise in turbulent flow

This paper presents a comprehensive experimental aeroacoustic investigation of propeller under turbulence ingestion. Two turbulence-generating passive grids were utilized to quantify the effect intensity on characteristics propeller. A two-component hot-wire anemometry was employed study flow field. The field results demonstrate substantial increase in fluctuating velocity components both axial and radial directions, concentrated at mid-span blade near tip, respectively. Energy spectral analysis vicinity shows significantly higher broadband energy levels with multiple haystacking peaks harmonics passage frequency. Far-field noise load measurement show that ingestion has strong aerodynamic loading acoustic response directivity radiation low frequency significant tonal contribution. Meanwhile, is more dominant range frequency, especially when operated advance ratio settings. far-field revealed trends domain spectra are most for propellers operating turbulent inflows.
